Patience is not about accommodation, adjustment, or tolerance. The patience we know is suffering. Real patience is timelessness—where you don't even feel time. Like when you're deeply immersed in a book in the late night, and suddenly it’s dawn with birds chirping—that is patience. Real patience is love, where time simply disappears.

I tell everybody that small defeats are inevitable. You will have them. Let them not mean too much. If you are too disturbed by small defeats, you have had it; you won’t stay put for long. You would be so embarrassed and so ashamed of yourself that you will quit.

If you are in a railway coach, and that too an enclosed cabin with two fellow passengers, and it’s just a journey, let’s say, ten hours long, and those two guys are constantly squabbling, what would it do to you? If you are very patient, you will try to sleep.

Vedanta reveals that freedom is impossible as long as the ego seeks to preserve itself. Meditation may bring temporary calm, but real transformation begins only when the false sense of individuality dissolves. Whether through devotion or knowledge, every genuine spiritual path culminates in the complete dissolution of the seeker into Truth. Liberation is not the experience of Truth by an individual—it is the end of the individual who wants to experience Truth.

Questioner (Q): Why do we forget?

Karma is a reflection of who you are. You are the doer. Karma means action. You are the actor. The principle of karma is: do not focus on karma; focus on karta, the doer, the actor. That is karma, that’s all. There is nothing mystical about it.

Can you go to the past and choose something or unchoose something? And life is happening right now. So your power to respond to life is right now. But the moment you say it is happening due to the past, then you have surrendered your power to choose, because you cannot do anything with the past. You cannot change the past. You can’t choose the past. You can’t unchoose the past. You can’t modify it. You can do nothing.

For most of us, work is a random accident. You’re born a girl, so you’ll become a housewife. Born a girl, how will you be an astronaut or a swimmer? Is any self-awareness needed? Do not let your choice of work be dictated by social norms or established channels. When work arises as an expression of your deepest clarity, only then can there be love.

Do not use your life as a waiting room. Do not wait even a second for things that merely promise but won’t deliver, as it's in the future which is unseen. Having seen that what you hope and expect will never materialize, do not wait another moment. Drop what is false. Don’t be kind or liberal; have no patience with falseness.
You are doing the right thing but not finding validation of it from your peers. So, in spite of doing the right thing and living rightly, or at least beginning to live rightly, you feel as if something deeply wrong is happening with you. It’s a bad situation.
Change your…
Question (Q): Sir, you always talk of filling life with the highest work possible. I want to know what exactly is that highest work you repeatedly refer to?
Acharya Prashant(AP): We know of what is not high, right? When we are talking of filling our lives with the highest possible,…
Victory is not decided by the trophy you hold but by the battle you choose to fight. Real strength lies in making the right decisions, staying true to your deepest values, and refusing to be ruled by fear or circumstances. When your actions arise from clarity rather than ambition, the outcome loses its power over you. The moment you choose the right path, you have already won.
Kabir Saheb's message questions the very act of searching for fulfilment outside oneself. Whether through religion, relationships, success, possessions, or identity, people keep assuming that what is missing lies somewhere else. The problem is not the destination but the belief that fulfilment exists at a distance. Real freedom begins when the search turns inward, recognising that the seeker and the sought were never truly separate.
Do not ask, "Why do we forget?" Just remember that we forget. Because when you forget then you don’t ask this question that, "Why do we…
If you are honest, you will find that significant chunks of your time are being taken up by activities you do not even want to admit to yourself. The thing is, we ought to be objective; we ought to know where it is really going. And you might discover that nobody is actually all that short of time. Time is there; it’s just that when it is spent on activities that please us, we try to hide that time because it’s our little joyful secret.
If you are in charge of a kid, then you have to be very sensitive, very careful, and loving. Just being with the kid in a loving way, not even having planned what to teach him, is sufficient. Instead of teaching kids, I have been learning from them, and they have given my ego great lessons by exposing me. No kid needs any training; we need de-training.
The Gita is not made precious by the fact that Arjun won. No, Arjun may win, or Arjun may lose. The real thing lies in having the Truth represented by Shri Krishna at the heart. When you are fighting the right war, then you have won even before the war has begun. That does not mean that you will no longer fight. You will still fight, and you will fight for the sake of external victory. But inwardly, you are victorious even before shooting the first arrow.
Our definitions of beauty and greatness are all egoistic. Something is beautiful if it corresponds with our likes and with our taste — then we call it beautiful. Whereas the real definition of beauty is that which silences you, that which does not leave you even in a position to utter a "Wow!" That's beauty. That which takes you beyond yourself — that's beauty.
We say, “Oh yes, this thing is right, and it must be done, but…” If the thing is right and it must be done, from where has this split arrived? There is no need to split the action from the result of the action. Right action is its own fruit. Now you can rebel. If rebellion is the right thing to do, why bother about the result of rebelling?
Truth enlightens, so it is attractive. Maya enthrals, so it is sometimes even more attractive. Where to go — that is the battle.

The Gita doesn't say, ‘Do not clamour for results and just keep doing whatever you are doing.’ The starting point is not work or action. The starting point is the choice of work. When work has been chosen rightly out of self-awareness, then you will have no desire to worry about what you will get from the work. There is so much love in it that there is no need left to desire anything from the future. One says, "It is sufficient that I'm able to act rightly. It would be ingratitude to ask for more." That is niṣkāma karma.

“The food is not good. You smell bad. You do not flush properly. You are overspending on this thing. No, I would not watch that movie." That is the stuff of your usual domestic. What else do you fight over? Whether or not Trump should interfere in Ukraine? Is that what husbands and wives fight over? No. Only these things. "Why were you ogling at the neighbor?" Focus on what is important and forget the rest.

Overview
Fighting Duryodhana is Dharma. Fight Duryodhana in the way you can, that is swadharma. Dharma is the same for everybody, but swadharma varies according to your physical, social, temporal conditions.
But remember that swadharma can never be in contradiction of Dharma; swadharma will always be something…

The real issue is not about time at all. You are spending time exactly according to your values. Don’t ask how to utilize time. Ask yourself, "Do I know what is truly valuable?" When you are clear about what is truly valuable in life, all your time will be devoted to that. Become clear. Know what is truly valuable.

Figuratively, we say that Om, comprising ‘A, U, M’ (Akār–Ukār–Makār), representing the three states of consciousness, dissolves into silence, and silence is the target. Similarly, the mind, leaving behind all its three states, disappears into the target. Pass through all that you can experience — all that is possible in waking, dreaming, sleeping — and then transcend into 'non-being'. Within the three states, you are you, but when you leave the three states behind, you have left yourself behind. And when there is no you, then there is no mind, no ego. That is. That is.

One attractive and glitzy role model can influence your daughter toward the wrong attitudes, lifestyle, and ultimately, wrong life decisions. Just give your daughter the right role models. Give her great books; take her to the right documentaries, the right movies. Introduce her to glorious women in history. Once she’s spent a week reading the life story of Marie Curie, how will she respect Pari, who is admired because of her style and dressing? Education is the real thing.

Human beings are in a peculiar situation. They can choose to side with their animalistic conditioning or they can choose something higher. They can choose freedom, joy, love, liberation, compassion. Therefore, humans have a responsibility. Animals don't have that responsibility.

Gita can be brought to anybody, and Arjunas are not always available. Sometimes, Duryodhanas have to be turned into Arjunas. It’s just that it’s relatively easier with an Arjuna. As long as somebody has even the faintest remnant of consciousness left, Gita can be brought to that person — but it will be tough. Nobody really deserves the Gita. You can only be grateful to the Gita if it comes to you.

We say, “It was just sheer grace that the Buddha encountered sights of the old man, the sick man, the destitute, and was transformed.” But — was the Buddha the only one who encountered such sights? Grace is available to everybody; it was only the Buddha who decided that it’s time to take action. Grace is that which comes to you unconditionally, but people reject grace. Even grace respects your choice.

The role of the parents is to give birth — to not only give the body, but also then unburden the child of the body. When parents operate through their conditioned patterns, those kids turn violent, loveless, and insecure when they become adults. Your relationship with the kid cannot change till you continue to be what you are.

Acharya Prashant: ‘How can I get my ex-girlfriend back?’ The question comes from Shubham. Shubham you will have to die (audience bursts into laughter). There is no other way, you will have to die.
You know, it was Kabir Sahab who said: ये तो घर है प्रेम का, खाला…

The future comes from the choices that you make today, because you are a creature of choice. If you were not a creature of choice, then everything would have been predetermined. But you are a conscious person, and by definition, consciousness is choice. So, if you say that you are travelling into the future, which particular future are you travelling into? Time travel is just a fantasy—a nice thing to entertain the mind. There’s not much more in it.

Shri Ram is the source of all excellence—Kabir Sahab’s excellence, the excellence of an astronaut, the excellence of a deep-sea diver, the excellence of a professional, etc. If you don’t have excellence in what you do, it is because you have been disloyal to Ram. Without Ram, you can’t do anything nicely.

One seeks change because one is not satisfied. One is attracted to new beginnings because one is not quite alright with his current state. No activity, no beginning, nothing new will help. The past that shapes us does not end but continues by renaming itself as the future. You do not need the beginning of a new pattern; you need termination from all patterns.

First of all, we have to realize what our life is like. You know, I can’t change something without firstly understanding its processes and its actuality. I must know what this thing called my life is. We keep living without knowing a thing about life. And we’re blinded by names and identities.

Please be an observer and a compassionate witness. Keep watching, watch from a distance. Meddling is not needed. Being a parent of a girl child today is a humongous opportunity. You have the chance to give rise to a new world—if you can truly raise one girl as a free girl.

The question should be which one is relevant to you? What will you do by enquiring about Shri Krishna’s grace? That’s Shri Krishna’s prerogative, right? Shri Krishna will take care of his grace if he has to offer grace. Whatever he has to do, we do not know what grace is. We do not know who Shri Krishna is. How does it concern us to go into matters of his grace? What is it that’s in your control? Your own preparation, your own willingness. So, you take care of that.

The man who lives with his heart—there will be heart in his work as well. Heart will be visible in his every step. And the one who is doing something for money—he will say that he will marry where he’s getting more dowry. "I will take up a job where I get a high CTC. And I will give the contract to the one who’s paying more bribe." And this—who teaches this love? Learning this is wisdom. This is self-knowledge. This is self-observation.

You cannot worship something with the intent of obtaining favors—that's exploitation. Worshiping a cow while asking for milk is not worship. Worship is when you do not use any dairy product and yet respect the cow. The common man sees everything as an object for consumption. True nature worship is desireless—not based on consumption, with no one left to desire.

Do the utmost that you must in any situation, and you will find only the joy of right action. Tears are for those who turn away from their responsibility. If you were truly dedicating your energy rightly, how would you have any left to weep? So fight so hard that you either win or perish. If you win, the glory is yours. If you perish, at least all suffering is gone.

Silence is not just the absence of sound. Sound has its utility. Let there be a lot of sound and yet let there be silence and that silence is not cultivated through discipline. It is just a matter of the mind being aware of anything outside it but also of itself.

Desirelessness is not about not wanting anything. “The one who is preaching Nishkam Karma is right in the thick of action.” Nishkam Karma is not for absconders. Nishkam Karma means, I am a human being, I have discretion, and my desire will follow my discretion. I’m not an animal. I’ll not blindly run after instinct. Not that I won’t have desire, but my desire will be secondary to my discretion. That’s desirelessness. Desirelessness is not when you do not have desire. Desirelessness is when you do not give desire the top position. When you do not put desire at the helm, when you do not make desire the master — that’s called desirelessness.

Right action brings us peace, relaxation, and reasonless contentment. But we avoid it because it’s incompatible with our entire life structure, built on a wrongly lived past and the great stakes raised in it. Now, even if we accidentally make the right decision, it causes a lot of suffering and shakes up our foundations, making us go back to our dated, pre-existing ways.

Questioner:* I am Darshan, and my question is very simple yet complicated. So why do we not work? So even after knowing that if we work, we will get something that we are looking for. So, to take an example, I had the opportunity to interact with a lot…

Acharya Prashant: Suffering is a fire that burns down a lot. It brings along a certain purification. One of the poets gave the example of a snowball. Snowball that is cleansing itself in its own blood; by melting down. When a snowball starts melting, it starts becoming cleaner. And the…

Most of the times, we are preoccupied with the first kind of hope, which says, “Get something, get something.” That kind of hope will keep me dependent and afraid. The second kind of hope which says, “I just want to get rid and discover my true nature, discover my aloneness and freedom." In this hope you say, “I am already a diamond. Just that a lot of dirt has gathered on the diamond, and I want to get rid of the dirt.

Usually our love is about one special thing or person. But Kabir Sahab is saying, "Hari bhai ban rai—the entire jungle has turned green. I see greenery not merely in one tree, but in the entire jungle.” That’s the difference between common love and Kabir Sahab’s love. In your love, there is just one green tree; in Kabir Sahab’s love, the entire world has turned green: there is nothing dry anywhere anymore.

To qualify an entrance exam, and work towards it, without thinking of the results, that’s not what Karma Yoga is. Karma Yoga is not about setting tangible worldly targets and going after them. It’s a moment-to-moment thing in which you are very conscious whether the objective of your action is personal ingratiation or larger welfare. You are acting all the time, you are not acting merely when you act towards a distant and a larger cause.

Deja vu is not surprising. There is no newness here, only repetition. You are caught in a circuit, and everything is being rehashed, recycled, and repeated. Life itself is deja vu. It's just that you don't realize it. Those who realize this are the ones who, for the first time, come to something new and original. Discover your originality and write a new story of your own. Otherwise, there is nothing but deja vu!

If you cannot win the love of the Lord, so what if you can lord over your neighbor? What is the good of dressing your hair and donning your feet with jingling jewelry? What is the value of all your makeup with kajal to your eyelids and vermilion to your…

In the name of yagya, if you continue to burn wood, you are doing no good to anybody. Yagya must be understood in its true spirit. Shri Krishna says, “Do not act for yourself or for your personal gain. Act for a higher cause; higher than yourself, beyond yourself. Do that action that takes you to your Niyati, which is your end. Yagya is that which dissolves you; that which reduces you.”
