Speaker: ‘Good’ and ‘bad’ are value judgments. I will not very quickly get into them because you are adults, mature adults. You can find out on your own. I can only be with you, and together we can discover what all this ‘confidence’ business is all about.

What is it that blocks creativity? A cluttered mind, an obsessed mind, a worried mind, a mind too particular about results. Just as creativity is uncertain, similarly are the results of creativity. And if you are someone who bothers too much about results, then you cannot be creative.

Questioner (Q): (In tears, sitting next to the Speaker, by the Ganges and the Himalayas. Overwhelmed by his weeklong presence in the Speaker’s discourses) Why is it difficult to even be here?

Questioner: In the first five chapters of Śrīmadbhagavadgītā, I am seeing that Śrī Kṛṣṇa is repeatedly telling us of the state of the wise one, when I read such verses, all I see is a clear distance between the way the wise ones are and the way I live my

Spirituality is a most exquisite pursuit. It is only for those who are not at all contented with what the world can maximally offer. Not only are they not contented with what they already have, they are not contented even with the best that the world can potentially offer. Those…

Most people let their suffering de-energize them, stop them, encage them. And then there are others who work even more, get resolved even more exactly because they suffer. They let their suffering be their fuel. They don’t shy away from suffering.
A point comes they start inviting suffering. They say,…

Questioner: Sir, sometimes I lose my confidence. How can I boost up my confidence?
Speaker: Dilpreet, how many students are sitting here?

Ruthlessly question everything, and patiently and devotedly seek to understand. You must ask the most fundamental questions. What is the school? What does it mean to be an American versus an Indian? Why do we call somebody a girl and the other a boy? What is our relationship with the…

The ego will forget 999 defeats and remember that one game when it was able to win a game in spite of being 0-9 down. The memory of that one game keeps your false confidence alive.
Then you repeatedly keep slipping to 0-9 positions.

Questioner (Q): Sir, first of all, I am extremely apologetic of being so inquisitive and asking you questions so repeatedly.

As long as you keep giving importance to what you get from here and there, you will live in fear. And that is not necessary. Nobody wants to live in fear, right? Neither do you want to live in fear, nor do I want to live in fear. That is

Questioner: I work as a software engineer. My pocket is filling but not my heart. I quit my job two years ago and volunteer for an NGO which is a spiritual foundation. But somehow there was no transformation or peace within me even after one year of volunteering. So, I

Question (Q): Acharya Ji, being in Satsang, my mind is peaceful. But after some trigger happens, it gets deviated. How to deal with these external problems?

Questioner (Q): Sir, how to get confidence that is not based on knowledge?
Acharya Prashant (AP): (Laughingly) Just say that even if knowledge is not there, no harm will be done. Simple!

Spirituality just needs basic self-honesty, self-awareness. There is nothing mystical, nothing magical about it, but that is what it has been associated with. I am not talking of chanting; I am not talking of chakras; I am not talking of flying snakes; I am not talking of magical seeds. Not…

Questioner (Q): How can we remain constantly motivated throughout the academic year and throughout our life also? There are a lot of motivational videos out there, but their effect is short-lived; we remain motivated for a while and then go back to feeling demotivated. But we want to remain constantly…
You require confidence when you are afraid. The one who is not afraid, does not require confidence. It is ego that gives rise to fear because I have always known myself through others. That is why I am always afraid. You remain as you are, then you would not need any confidence. Do not ask for confidence. Remain simple! Do not try to become something. Just remain as you are. Simple, ordinary!
Physical weakness does not stay physical. It becomes mental weakness, and the ego, which turns everything into an identity, starts saying “I am weak” because that line brings support and spares it responsibility. Visible strength works even unused: it keeps the opponent outside wary and silences the one within, who can no longer claim to be helpless. Keeping the body strong is therefore a spiritual matter, not vanity. Are we holding on to weakness because it is convenient?
When someone calls us ugly or dumb, it can feel as if our confidence has been taken away. But others are outsiders; they cannot know us as well as we can know ourselves. The trouble begins when we do not know ourselves, so we start looking at ourselves through others’ eyes. Self-knowledge here simply means being honest with ourselves about where our likes, fears and desires come from. What would change if we looked at ourselves directly, and not through others’ opinions?
The question of confidence arises only when you are afraid. You do not need confidence when you are with the loved one, but in the interview room, everybody says, “I need confidence.” Look at all your images of confidence, and you will see a fine aggression there, because fear and violence go together. Don’t ask for confidence, ask for fearlessness.
Confidence is your enemy. Catch the inner thief red-handed. Look at its functioning. See how it manipulates and distorts. See how it has preset conclusions and then fabricates arguments in favor of the conclusions.
We are born confident. Do you see how a kid is so immensely full of confidence? None of us are born afraid. When we are afraid, we ask for confidence. Do not ask for confidence; instead, ask for freedom from fear. Fear is a thought given to you by society. It is not what you are. Just as you picked it up, you can drop it back. Exercise that power.
Put your heart fully into your work, and your mind will no longer be in the audience. When there is no heart in your work, then your mind wanders in the world. Love your work, and you will forget the world. Your problem is not that you are too concerned with people’s opinions. Your problem is that there is no heart in your work.
I am not talking of your confidence arising from skill or knowledge. I am talking of your confidence arising from the realization that no business is God. And that the Truth remains with you even if your business fails and the Truth does not get amplified even if your business prospers. Read more....

You must learn aloneness before you relate with people. You must be very, very comfortable with yourself. If you are not alright with yourself, then don’t start piggybacking on the other—and usually…

In our society, in this distorted culture that we have nowadays, there is just too much emphasis on public speaking; there is just too much emphasis on confident expression. Speaker: So, it is a nice question to start with. Confidence is something that we want, right? We do not like to be unsure or hesitant. We do not like to be in a situation where we are not certain that we know. That brings us to the word,…
