There is nothing sacred as such about any profession. A profession is made sacred by the touch of reality. If your profession is arising from your reality, then the reality renders it, bestows upon it a sacredness. Otherwise, there is nothing great about any profession—any profession.
Change the profession at will. If you feel that you have taken upon yourself a profession just in expectation of the fruit, freely give it up. Do not be daunted by the quantum of your investment in it.
“But I have invested thirty years in the same line—how do I now relinquish it?”
I would say, only thirty years? If even one hour of your life still remains and you spend that one hour rightly, that one hour is more valuable than those thirty years put together. So, for that remaining one hour of your life, give up that profession.
