Pulkit, you've put the whole problem in one sentence: you can see the conditioning but can't tell which voice is biology and which is ego. Notice what that uncertainty quietly does though, it keeps you at the checkpoint, sorting labels, instead of just watching what the pull actually does once acted on. Biology asks and is satisfied. Ego asks, gets satisfied, and asks again in a slightly new costume.
