No , we are not free either way because the essence of me being something that is either against or for the society is still clinging in my personality. According to me the only solution to this is an open eye which can see through actual right and wrong irrespective of the fact how important or filthy it is considered by the society.
Trisha, the open eye you're describing still needs a name for what it sees, right and wrong, and the moment that eye finds itself agreeing with the label, it has quietly built a third identity: the one who sees clearly, above both the conformist and the rebel. Arthur at least knew he was wearing a mask. The harder question the film leaves you with isn't how to see truly, it's whether the seer can ever stop being a position to defend. What would it look like to hold even that seeing lightly enough to not need to be it?
