You named the exact mechanism, future anxiety about finding a good partner, and then immediately reached for it as an explanation that closes the file. That's the move worth catching, not the crush, not even the anxiety, but how fast "I found the reason" became a way to stop looking. Naming future anxiety isn't the same as seeing what it's actually doing to you right now, at your desk, replaying conversations that have already ended. The thought of her isn't wandering in on its own. It's being called, because sitting with the study, or with the plain fact that it's over, is harder than sitting with the memory. That's worth watching the next time it happens, not explaining away.
