It’s a free world—and everybody is a slave || Neem Candies

“To do as I want to do”—is that not what freedom means to us? The ones who have better sense, they say this is nothing but the freedom to remain a slave. “So, I will be a slave of my choice.” Everybody is free. In the country of slaves, everybody is free.

There is no bigger slavery than doing what you want to do. There is no bigger slavery than that.

It is not the society that rules us anymore. It is a free world. Nobody else rules us from the outside, at least not perforce. We are masters of our own choices. We are ruled from the inside. We are ruled through these wants that we call as our own: “I want this, I want that.” There is just nobody to tell us that that which we think of as our own desire is totally, totally external.
