Description

Acharya Prashant explains that if one has adopted the identity of a seeker or a practitioner, it is a beneficial choice because the mind naturally seeks some form of identity. If the mind is not yet established in the Self beyond all identities, then identifying as a devotee or a yogi is auspicious. He addresses the concern that this identity brings seriousness or a sense of burden, stating that the solution is not to abandon the path but to become a more sincere seeker. Returning to one's previous state would only lead back to the same dissatisfaction that prompted the spiritual journey in the first place. While the seriousness of a seeker is eventually something to be transcended, this happens only upon reaching the ultimate goal. Until full liberation is achieved, one must choose between the 'lie' of the world, which binds, and the 'lie' of spiritual practice, which eventually liberates one from all falsehoods. He emphasizes that spiritual texts and the Guru act as surgeons for the ego. Just as a patient must remain still and not interfere during a physical surgery, a seeker must not let their personal intellect or ego interfere with the spiritual process. He points out the hypocrisy in how people readily spend vast amounts of money and effort on physical health and the body but are unwilling to invest even a fraction of that in their mental and spiritual liberation. People value the body because they identify with it, yet the body is temporary. He warns against using logic and arguments to justify or critique the spiritual path, as logic is often a tool of the ego. True progress is guided by love and understanding rather than intellectual reasoning, which can easily turn against the truth. One should persist in the spiritual journey without demanding constant visible benefits, as the path involves transcending the very ego that seeks such gains.
