Description

Acharya Prashant explains that consumption promotes further consumption. If you are already addicted to one form of consumption, many other forms are just waiting to leap into your life. For example, if today you are buying pretty sandals for your beloved, for sure tomorrow you would be buying milk bottles for the infant. Consumption begets more consumption; one kind of consumption leads to another kind. Material is material, and all flesh is material. If you are spending on your wedding today, it is certain that tomorrow you will be spending on childbirth. People are wise in this regard; once they have a man or woman in their life, they know that many other little persons are now going to enter their life, so they plan in advance. They decide to have a house with two spare rooms. The speaker explains that these future children are already there, just invisible. They are in their subtle forms and will very soon take gross form and come. We are all very spiritual people fundamentally; we know how the subtle manifests itself into the gross. At the time of the wedding, the future children are the unmanifest, the great unseen invisible, and very soon they will become manifest and take form. This entire process is a net. It doesn't matter which particular knot you get caught in; if you are caught, you are caught in the entire net. Those who avoid it, therefore, avoid it totally. You cannot be partially caught; in fact, to be partially caught is a deeper hell. If you are caught, you better be fully caught. You are either out or you are totally in. You cannot have the tendency to be caught yet remain only partially caught. Therefore, one should not try to be free of particular objects. If you want freedom, be free of the tendency to not be free. The problem is not the objects but the lack of immunity. Trying to be free from certain objects is like trying to ward off infections when your real problem is a lack of immunity. Sooner or later, something will penetrate your defenses. When your problem is a lack of immunity, do not fight outwards; take care of the inside. Drop the lack of immunity, drop the fear of freedom, and drop the attraction towards slavery.
