The reality behind the numbers tells a very different story. Coal continues to generate 72% of India's actual electricity, emissions reached 3 billion tons in 2023 making India the third largest polluter in the world, and over 20 GW of new coal plants are still under construction. Installed capacity and actual generation are two very different things, and conflating them is a dangerous self-deception. Even the definition of non-fossil energy is stretched to include large hydro dams that displace millions, drown forests, and release methane, a greenhouse gas 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Meanwhile, heat waves are scorching 23 states, floods displace tens of millions every year, and agriculture that sustains more than half of India hangs in the balance. The real targets, cutting coal dependence and reducing actual carbon emissions, remain almost entirely unaddressed. Celebrating statistics while the climate crisis burns fields and floods homes is not progress. It is a comfortable distraction from an urgent and growing national emergency. ➖➖➖➖➖➖ 🎧 Listen to #AcharyaPrashant on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3f0KFwe...
