Description

Acharya Prashant explains that a key characteristic of a strong person is that they make their own decisions. Such a person can tolerate others' displeasure, personal loss, or even strained relationships, but they cannot bear to see others harmed. In contrast, a weak person, for a small personal gain, can cause immense loss to someone else. Those who try to please everyone are very weak. The speaker points out that people who are afraid of loneliness are often exploited, as others can threaten to leave them alone if they don't comply. A sign of a genuine, strong person is that many people are unhappy with them. Acharya Prashant states that every relationship involves three entities: you, me, and a third element. The crucial question is to identify this third element. He then outlines five signs of inner strength. The first is placing duty above personal happiness and sorrow, or desire and suffering. This duty stems from compassion and one's own understanding. The second sign is the ability to stand against one's past and be ready to demolish the old self to build a new one. The third is prioritizing the collective over the self, meaning being ready to displease others for their ultimate good. The fourth is valuing truth over companionship, not fearing loneliness for the sake of truth. The fifth sign is choosing progress over comfort, which is true self-discipline governed by the soul or truth. A strong person is not afraid of loneliness; they can even find joy in it. They are prepared to break their old self and go against their personal and communal past. They are not interested in preserving their old image but are ready to create a new one. A weak person, on the other hand, constantly seeks to protect themselves. The speaker describes a weak person as a mule who needs to be pushed to move, is not self-disciplined, and seeks comfort. A strong person's discipline comes from within; they do not need an external taskmaster because their own understanding guides them. Their actions are determined by their own knowledge. They are ready to go against their own past because they value truth above their beliefs, imagination, and past.
