Description

Acharya Prashant explains that bondage is never from an external source but is always internal. For both men and women, liberation is not about their gender but about the liberation of the human being. He argues that as long as a woman seeks liberation *as a woman*, she cannot be free, because her identification with the conditioned idea of 'woman' is itself the bondage. The same applies to a man identifying as a 'man.' Therefore, the concept of 'women's liberation' is a paradox. The path to liberation is the same for all humans, regardless of gender. It is achieved through the growth of understanding, the reduction of desires, and the awakening of wisdom. He addresses the idea of a patriarchal system where men exploit women, stating that no one can be exploited without their consent. If women were truly just being exploited, they would not remain in such a system. He posits that women's participation in patriarchy is because they perceive some benefit or self-interest in it, even if it's a false interest. This feeling of gaining something is the real internal bondage. He points out that even financially independent women often remain in bondage, which proves that the bondage is internal and not just external. This participation is a transaction, not just one-sided exploitation. In exchange for being 'exploited,' women receive certain comforts and securities. The speaker clarifies that these 'goods' received in the patriarchal transaction are not just material things like money or gold, but also emotional security, the feeling of having a caretaker, and a protector. To attain liberation, one must give up the greed for these comforts. Once this greed is gone, no one can exploit you. He dismisses the argument that raising the marriage age for women will increase rape cases, calling the logic incomprehensible and pointing out that most rapes are marital rapes, committed by husbands.
