Acharya Prashant explains that religion is the essential pathway leading to spirituality, which in turn centers on godliness. He argues that it is nearly impossible for the vast majority of people to achieve spirituality without the foundation of religion. Religion serves as a worldly reminder for those far from godliness, using festivals, idols, and scriptures to turn their attention toward the beyond. He illustrates this by noting that without the religious halo and myths surrounding Shri Krishna, very few would approach the profound wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita. Religion provides the necessary context and respect that allows spiritual truths to eventually take root in the heart.
