Acharya Prashant explains that love is the fire that melts down the bondage that is you, whereas knowledge is merely the light in which you can see your bondages. He states that even if you are able to look at your chains in the light of knowledge, that does not rid you of them. If you have been wearing chains since your inception, then the observation of these chains hardly surprises you. Knowledge is just the beginning, likened to a school curriculum for boys in school uniforms. Love, however, is for real men who are either dressed in battle gear or not dressed at all, not in school uniforms. Liberation is not a boyish matter; it is for men who can love. It is men and women who know love and liberation, while boys and girls can only giggle, wink, and chortle. He describes observation as a teeny-weeny beginning, the teenage phase of spirituality, and a childish thing. Practicing detached, passive observation will only carry you so far because the entity that exists as a detached observer, the 'I', remains. The real thing that needed to be dropped, the 'I', is still there. Love is when this 'I' simply melts. This happens when there is discontent with your current situation, which can only come from love. Only when you have seen and fallen in love with something bigger and better than yourself will you no longer want to remain who you are. Otherwise, you can know everything about yourself and still comfortably continue to be who you are. Citing Kabir Saheb, he emphasizes the virtue of 'Satsangat' (right company). The company of a Sadhu (a wise one) is so sweet that one would not want to leave it even if called by Ram. This is because after spending time with a Sadhu, you will no longer be able to tolerate your usual domestic nonsense. Just knowing your house is noisy is not enough; you must also have had an introduction to silence to desire it.
