Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the feelings of being demoralized or demotivated arise because individuals have handed over the control of their minds to external factors. He points out that if an external person, word, or situation has the power to motivate someone, it inherently possesses the power to discourage them as well. People often feel happy when someone motivates them, failing to realize that this dependence makes them a slave to external circumstances. He uses the analogy of a pet animal that is dependent on its master for food, whether the food is expensive or simple, to illustrate that dependence itself is the root of the problem. True freedom lies in remaining unchanged internally despite the changing colors of the world, much like a mirror that reflects different images but remains clean and unaffected. He further discusses the link between excitement and depression, stating that those who are easily excited by others are also prone to being depressed by them. Excitement and depression go together, and those who seek external stimulation are unknowingly falling into a trap of dependency. Regarding the fear of the future, Acharya Prashant asserts that one only worries about the next ten years when there is a lack of contentment in the present moment. A joyful mind does not wander into the future; it is only the suffering mind that seeks escape in thoughts of what is to come. He concludes that all external notions of happiness are mere illusions and that one should focus on being present and stable, rather than being driven by the fear or hope of future outcomes.
