Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the question of why corrupt and cunning people appear happy. He begins by stating that it is a flawed complaint to observe that worldly people, who neither engage in devotional practices nor read scriptures, are still enjoying themselves. He uses an analogy to explain this: cockroaches have wings but do not get the sky, so they should at least be allowed to enjoy the drains. One should not complain about this. He points out that those who complain are often envious, wanting both spiritual bliss for themselves and all the worldly pleasures that a corrupt person enjoys, such as a big mansion, social prestige, and bribe money. They want everything for themselves while not even letting the 'cockroach' live in the drain. The speaker clarifies that one must choose between two paths: either the joys and sorrows of the material world or the bliss of the heavens. Those who have not chosen the bliss of the heavens are already enduring all the sorrows of the material world. Therefore, they should be allowed the small, corresponding pleasures of the material world, like dancing at weddings or getting happy after drinking alcohol. He asserts that this much happiness is their right and one should not be so cruel. Spirituality teaches compassion even for animals, so one should have compassion for these people as well. They are already deprived of the ultimate potential and unique bliss of human life. Acharya Prashant concludes by advising the spiritual seeker to be like an eagle, for whom the sky of spirituality is meant. A hawk flying in the sky is never jealous of a cockroach in a drain. The seeker should focus on attaining what is truly worthwhile, which is the sky of spiritual liberation, and not be bothered by the small pleasures of those who are content in the drains. One should let them be happy with their big cars or expensive weddings, as that is all they have.
