Acharya Prashant shares his journey toward veganism, noting that he was born into a vegetarian family and felt a natural affection for all living beings from an early age. He recalls reading a Hindi story during his second year at IIT about the life of a calf, which detailed the animal's suffering, exploitation, and eventual slaughter. This story prompted him to quit drinking milk, although he continued to consume other milk products for another fifteen years before fully committing to veganism. His transition to complete veganism was triggered by a personal experience with his pet rabbit, Nandu, who required daily care for an incurable leg injury. Following the rabbit's death, Acharya Prashant watched the film 'Ship of Theseus,' which featured a scene involving experiments on rabbits. Seeing a rabbit that resembled his own led him to immediately renounce all animal-related products. He describes this transition as effortless once the decision was made, and he has remained vegan for several years since that moment. Acharya Prashant also recounts an incident where he witnessed a chicken escaping a butcher's knife while he was driving. After initially driving past, he felt compelled to return, purchased the chicken from the butcher, and brought it home. The chicken lived with him for many years, becoming a source of many fond memories. He emphasizes that these personal connections and realizations about animal suffering are what shaped his practice of leading a life that avoids animal exploitation.
