Description

Acharya Prashant responds to a question about how older, family-oriented women, who feel suppressed by society, can move forward in life. He begins by stating that all walls are in the mind. He asserts that there is no lack of information, money, or legal support for women. The constitutions of the world are not only favorable to women but also provide them with special facilities and rights, sometimes more than men. Therefore, any obstacle is not external but mental. The walls are within the mind and must be demolished there. A woman must change her self-image. She needs to alter her perception of the world and see it as it truly is. This requires taking risks. Freedom is precious and demands a price. He uses the analogy of a small bird (maina) that has lived its entire life in a golden cage, being pampered and protected. If its cage is opened, it will be afraid of the open sky because it has never flown and is accustomed to the safety of the cage. It faces the risk of being preyed upon by eagles, hawks, and vultures. That risk must be taken, even if it includes the risk of death. The real joy of living is in challenging oneself, confronting oneself, and defeating oneself. Acharya Prashant encourages the questioner, noting that she is still young and healthy, with at least 25 years of life ahead, considering the average lifespan in Europe. He advises her to live life to the fullest, not to waste a single moment, and to do whatever she can. He explains that progress is exponential; it starts slow, like an airplane on a runway, which might seem to be just moving on a flat surface initially. However, it eventually takes off. One should not be discouraged by the slow start. He concludes by saying, you won't even realize when you start to fly. Just keep walking with all your might, and ensure your wings are open; the flight will happen on its own.
