Acharya Prashant emphasizes that one must be disciplined towards the process rather than being concerned with the result, as the result is a function of numerous unknown variables. He explains that any process is inherently flawed because it assumes a limited number of variables, but adhering to it with discipline is essential to eventually discard it and move toward refinement. If one is undisciplined and fails, they may blame their lack of discipline rather than recognizing the flaw in the process itself. Therefore, discipline is necessary to discount the possibility of personal failure and reveal the limitations of one's ego and knowledge. He further clarifies that while discipline is a necessary condition for success, it is not the causing condition. Success, even in the material world, is ultimately a matter of grace, but this grace is only available to those who show commitment and devotion. He uses the analogy that fortune favors the brave, noting that luck and unexpected discoveries often come as a reward for determined discipline, even if the original plan fails. In his view, the sacrifice of discipline and determination invites the chance for success, making it impossible to achieve anything significant without them.
