A student from IIT Kharagpur asks Acharya Prashant about the difficulty of re-socializing after a long period of isolated, focused study for the JEE exams, and how this affects mental health. Acharya Prashant begins by clarifying that during the JEE preparation, the student was completely driven and focused on her studies, which was her purpose at the time. This purpose was so significant that she did not feel the need to socialize or have friends to share her problems with; she would go to her teachers instead. The competitive environment demanded this level of dedication. Acharya Prashant points out that now, after entering IIT, the student feels a bit relaxed because the primary goal has been achieved. However, this relaxation has led to a lack of a central purpose. He explains that the need for friends, communication, and so-called soft skills arises from this absence of a compelling purpose. He asserts that the issue is not a lack of social skills but the absence of a purpose that is bigger than the company of friends. When you have a purpose, you don't need to socialize; the purpose itself is the biggest company. He advises that one has not truly achieved anything yet, as clearing the JEE is not the final destination. He warns against the trap of mediocrity that can follow after achieving an initial goal, especially for a woman in the Indian context, who must continue to strive and not let her guard down. He urges the student to find a new, great purpose, something that can never be fully attained, such as realization or liberation. This ultimate purpose is the annihilation of the ego, which is achieved through one's life's work. He advises choosing work and projects that are so challenging they lead to one's betterment and diminish the ego. When one is devoted to a great purpose, the right kind of company and relationships will naturally follow, as they will be aligned with that work. He encourages maintaining the same intense, fiery spirit from the JEE preparation days throughout life, always striving to excel and move towards a higher goal. The final victory is the internal one, which is about continuously working in the right, inward direction.
