Description

A questioner shares his lifelong struggle with fear, which began in childhood due to a harsh environment where his father and uncle would beat him. This fear continued into his college hostel life. A significant incident occurred when a doctor suggested he might have a serious illness like cancer, which deeply shook him and led him to drop out of college, despite being a top student in physics. Now a government lecturer, he finds this fear has become so ingrained that he struggles with simple interactions, like talking to a shopkeeper. Although the feeling subsides after some conversation, it returns when he is alone, causing him distress and sleepless nights. He acknowledges that while he can face some situations without fear, others, like office work, still scare him. Acharya Prashant explains that in this world, if there is one thing that never lies, it is fear. Fear is truthful; it tells you that a certain thing will not last and will come to an end, which is absolutely correct. It is hope that lies, not fear. All your fears will eventually come true. For instance, the fear of cancer is ultimately a fear of dying soon. Even if you don't get cancer, you will die, so fear did not lie. You fear for what you call 'yours,' and whatever you call yours will not stay with you. Therefore, fear is telling the truth. The question should not be about how to remove fear, as fear is a truth. Instead, one should ask what to do with the time and life one has. Fear is a sign that you have a lot of free time, a lack of love in your life, and you don't know what to do with your time. You need something in your life that is bigger than fear. When you have something very big, fear will automatically become small in comparison. Don't be so interested in talking about fear itself. The constant feeling of fear is a sign of the absence of something else, like love or a clear purpose. Fill that emptiness, and fear will diminish. When you are engaged in the right work, you won't be afraid. Fear arises in the time you steal from your real work. The real work is to understand the truth, and if you focus on that, other things will not scare you.
