Acharya Prashant explains that the entire expansion of our consciousness exists because we are searching for something. When what we are searching for is not found, we expand the search area further, thinking it might be found ahead. He illustrates this with an analogy: we are searching for a star that is missing from our life. Initially, we search within a small space, like a room. The expansion of our consciousness is then limited to that room. When it's not found there, we expand our search to the neighborhood, then the district or state, then the country, and then the entire planet. This continuous expansion of the search area represents the expansion of our consciousness. Despite putting in immense effort, just as we work hard all day, we fail to find this star. The reason it is not found is that we are searching in the wrong place. We keep expanding the area of our search, but it is futile. The problem is that we are searching horizontally, or downward, while the star is to be found upward. We search downward because it is convenient for the body; our feet can take us there, and our hands can feel around. To search upward, one must reduce the sense of being the body and challenge the limitations of weight and gravity. This is the story of our lives. We keep working hard, but with a condition: we will work only within the limits of our bodily convenience. Since we are the body, we follow the law of gravity. We are the body, so we will walk with our feet and pick things up with our hands. To go upward, the body-consciousness has to be reduced. This is why the expansion of consciousness continues, but the restlessness never ends. Our world, knowledge, experience, and age keep increasing, but the star is not found. That star cannot be found with any kind of expansion—be it of money, experience, age, or relationships. However, in this expansion, if you find someone who points upward, then it can be found.
