Acharya Prashant explains that we do not just act, but we act with the intention of obtaining the fruit of the action. The actor performs actions based on their personal intellect, desires, calculations, and projections, speculating that the action will yield a particular, lucrative result. In fact, it is for the sake of that result that the actor acts. The ultimate goal behind any action is not merely the result itself, but the contentment, completion, and finality that the actor hopes the result will provide. The actor is described as a frustrated entity who acts for the sake of bringing an end to their frustration. The speaker points out the disappointing reality that the results of actions are never as anticipated. He describes two scenarios where the equation of action and result goes wrong. The first, which he calls "bad," is when the action fails to produce the desired result, leaving the actor discontented. The second, and "worse," scenario is when the action succeeds and the wish is fulfilled, yet the actor remains unfulfilled and without contentment. This leaves the actor in a difficult position, having to choose between a bad outcome and a worse one. Referencing Ramana Maharshi's teaching that "Karma carries within itself the seed of its own destruction," the speaker elaborates that it is actually the actor (Karta) who carries the seed of their own destruction. The actor and the action are inseparable; as long as the actor remains who they are, they have no real choice but to act in the way they do. One cannot change their actions without changing themselves. The actor is their own suffering; they do not have a suffering, they are the suffering. The actor, as they are constructed and conditioned, is not sustainable and has no longevity. At some point, they must give in, accept defeat, and surrender. The more one acts, the more one discovers the futility of their actions, which brings them closer to the destruction of the action and, consequently, the actor. The more active, desirous, and confident the actor is, the faster they are running towards their own end.
