Acharya Prashant discusses the complex issue of stray dogs in India, acknowledging the Supreme Court's concerns regarding public safety, rabies, and accidents. He notes that India has an exceptionally high population of stray dogs, leading to significant human-animal conflict. While understanding the legal perspective, he also validates the concerns of animal activists who point out the lack of adequate shelter infrastructure and the deep emotional bond humans share with dogs, who have been companions for thousands of years. He suggests that as urbanization and cleanliness increase, the traditional 'street dog' lifestyle will naturally decline because their food sources, like open garbage, disappear. He advocates for the model used in some European countries, which focuses on sterilization and vaccination rather than displacement, allowing the current population to live out their lives without reproducing.
