Acharya Prashant explains that the ego constantly seeks assurance and certainty to feel secure, yet this very pursuit increases fear and disappointment. He compares the ego's efforts to filling a broken bowl with water; the more one tries to fill it, the more evident its emptiness becomes. This cycle of seeking security through knowledge and labels only highlights one's inner doubts and feelings of being 'fake' or 'untrue' when faced with life's challenges. To cope, people often adopt the lie that 'all is well,' using it as a shield to avoid the painful realization that their lives are actually joyless and fearful. This psychological distance is maintained because encountering a truly healthy or 'awake' person would shatter these false assurances.
