Description

Acharya Prashant explains that management requires a fundamental separation between the manager and the object being managed. Just as one cannot manage a microphone without being distinct from it, one cannot manage the mind if one is completely identified with it. He notes that observation is impossible when there is no distance; one cannot see clearly if an object is too close to the eyes. Similarly, because we are deeply associated with our memories, experiences, and conditioning, we find it difficult to stand apart and observe the mind's functioning. He describes the mind as a machine or an instrument, similar to a camera that records audio and visuals, but emphasizes that humans possess a unique quality that machines can never have: intelligence, which is the capacity to make sense of what is happening.
