Acharya Prashant explains the fundamental difference between desire and purpose, noting that expectations are another name for desire. He describes the human condition as being born with a vague, hazy sense of unease or restlessness. Desire is an attempt to correct this internal situation without knowing what the internal situation really is. It has the right intention but lacks awareness, leading people to make guesses about what will make them feel better, such as money, prestige, or success. Because desire is related to the external world, it is frequently defeated or remains unmet, as the world is not obliged to follow one's commands. Even when desires are met, the underlying restlessness often remains.
