Acharya Prashant explains that the power of one's resolve is directly proportional to the loftiness of the subject of that resolve. The power of resolve will be at its highest only when the subject of the resolve is the highest. This is also appropriate, because if one possesses immense power for a petty goal, the matter can become terrible. If you make a tremendous resolve for a small, insignificant, or low subject, what will you achieve at most? Nothing. He addresses the common complaints of laziness, lack of willpower, or breaking morale by stating that the reason is often that the goals people set are not high enough to awaken their higher energy. The object of their desire is not lofty enough to demand significant life force, power, or resolve. Consequently, the energy doesn't even rise because there is no need for it. What would that energy do by waking up? The higher the thing you ask for, the more effort is needed, and in turn, that much more power is unlocked from within. If your power is not being unlocked, it is because you do not have a high enough goal. People mistakenly set small goals because they feel they have little energy, but this becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. It may seem like you have used all your energy to achieve a small goal, but in reality, you had ten times more energy that remained dormant because it had no use. A big goal is one that erases your inner smallness—jealousy, fear, selfishness. It is a goal in whose service you forget yourself. A big work is not one where you get a lot of money or a high position, but one that does not let you remain small. A truly great work is one that you cannot complete as you are; you must grow, improve, and dissolve your current self to achieve it. A task that can be done without changing you is probably not worth doing. Life is not determined by the qualities nature has given you, but by what you dedicate those qualities to. Whatever you have received—be it beauty, intelligence, or talent—are resources. These resources are not meant to be merely consumed for personal gain but should be dedicated to a higher resolve. When you ask for something high, these inner resources awaken and are unlocked.
