Description

Acharya Prashant explains that while parents may desire the well-being of their children, their lack of understanding often leads to harmful outcomes. He uses the analogy of brain surgery to illustrate that good intentions without specialized knowledge can be fatal. Similarly, in life, if one does not understand the science of the mind and the self, their attempts to do good for others—such as encouraging a friend to drink alcohol to cure sadness—are rooted in ignorance and result in harm. He emphasizes that true love does not support another's ignorance; instead, it requires one to stand in understanding and engage in mature dialogue rather than blind obedience. He challenges the notion that becoming a parent automatically grants wisdom or divinity. Age and parenthood do not resolve mental confusion; a person remains ignorant unless they have specifically studied the mind and life. Just as one would not consult an elderly person for engineering or mathematics if they haven't studied those subjects, one should not rely on parents for psychological or life decisions if they lack that specific understanding. Truth does not change based on a parent's or grandparent's command, and it is one's duty to bring the light of truth to them if they are in the dark. Acharya Prashant asserts that the fear of disobeying parents often stems from greed and dependence rather than love. Many young adults remain submissive because they do not want to lose the comforts and security provided by their parents. He describes this as a business transaction where freedom is traded for convenience. He points out that while nature and law consider them mature adults, they choose to remain 'children' for their own selfish interests. True love, he concludes, involves waking oneself up and then helping parents to wake up, rather than choosing to remain in ignorance alongside them.
