Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the true meaning and severe consequences of climate change are not being understood. He illustrates this with vivid examples, such as airplanes falling from the sky due to extreme turbulence and humans being unable to survive in scorching temperatures of 55 degrees Celsius. He states that we are failing to grasp the reality of the situation, which is a result of our own actions. The speaker identifies the fundamental problem as a foolish and self-destructive indulgence in 'Bhog' (consumption and enjoyment). This blind pursuit of consumption not only deprives one of 'Yog' (inner peace and discipline) but ultimately destroys the very means of consumption itself. He gives an example of a person who eats only pizza, who will not only miss out on a disciplined life but will also soon become unable to eat pizza due to ill health. This leads to a situation of "neither illusion nor God," where one loses both the material and the spiritual. This lust for consumption manifests globally as a blind race for GDP, money, and development, which is the direct cause of climate change. The irony, he points out, is that for the sake of GDP, we have destroyed the climate, and now the climate will destroy our GDP. He notes that India is doing nothing to address this, despite its "Vishwaguru" (world leader) ambitions. He also mentions political leaders like Donald Trump who, driven by the "merchants of greed," promise to revive destructive practices like coal mining. The two main drivers of this destruction are the blind lust for GDP and the lust for procreation. Acharya Prashant warns that climate change will have its worst impact on the world's poorest and most densely populated regions, which are also the primary food-producing areas. This will lead to food shortages, famine, and massive migration, which in turn will cause wars between nations. He asserts that climate change will be a major cause of the next world war, which will further decimate economies. The speaker concludes by stating that climate change is not merely a technical or environmental issue but a problem of the human heart, stemming from self-ignorance. Our entire life philosophy is wrong; we are taught that we are born for consumption, not liberation. Until the purpose of life shifts from consumption to liberation, life itself will not last long.
