Once I have decided something about someone, I become surprisingly good at finding evidence for it. If I think a person is selfish, one selfish act becomes “See, I knew it.” Ten contradictory instances somehow don’t receive the same attention. The number 4 example made me realise how easily a belief can start selecting its own evidence. And perhaps this is how many ideas of Lokdharma survive too repetition and selective examples slowly begin to feel like truth. So maybe the question isn’t, “Do I have evidence?” It is: “Did I honestly look for what could prove me wrong too?”
