The deeper our ignorance, the more hollow our desires become. Without understanding what is happening within, we keep trying to fill our inner emptiness through things outside—through consumption, possessions, achievements, and endless accumulation. But if we genuinely inquire into ourselves, we may discover that we do not need to consume nearly as much as we think we do. Much of our consumption is simply an attempt to compensate for an inner lack—and in doing so, we keep placing an unnecessary burden on nature. The real solution is not merely changing our consumption patterns, but understanding the consumer himself. Mass education of the Self.
