Question: One of your quote says, “If you are identified with an object, you have given it control over yourself. This control itself will prevent you from being free from identification.”
Does it mean that once you are identified with an object you can’t be free from this identification ?
Answer: Not as long as you believe yourself to be the identified entity. End of belief comes from an observation of belief.
Question: OK. And observation I suppose will come from reflection, introspection, and meditation.
Answer: No, observation is just observation. Coming in total contact with something without greed, fear or effect of past, without analysis or speculation. Total contact.
Question: Does observation happen by itself only, or can we do it by conscious effort as well?
Answer: We can do nothing about observation, as observation is not an object that can be worked upon. We can, however, remove the barriers that we ourselves have raised. The faculty of attention is always available. The mind bars it by beliefs, opinions, objectives.
Question: You said that end of belief comes from observation of belief, and observation happens automatically. So, does it mean that we can’t do anything about removing the beliefs or barriers ?
Answer: When belief attacks, we can stand at a distance from it(not resist it) and let it operate. This distancing will allow attention to operate, on its own.
Question: I agree. Another thing we can do is actively identify the unhelpful beliefs present in us. We can also understand how beliefs are formed, and then we can un-create them at the point of creation by symbolically going back.
Answer: Yes, but undoing of one belief must not create another belief. There are no positive or helpful beliefs.
All beliefs are false.
