When you look at the body, you see that the body was founded by something outside of itself: one cell from the father, one cell from the mother. And whatever the body feeds on — food, water, air, sunlight — all of that comes from outside the body. You, who are conscious, have hardly anything in common with the body. Also, the wise man says, “The body is not mine,” because he doesn't control the body. The body will die one day whether one wants it or not.

Question Everything

The Truth cannot be objectified as a thing, place, person, or book. So, don't be too quick to accept your own assessments, judgments, likes, dislikes, and experiences. Whatever you're seeing is seen by "you" — the Ego — and you are no absolute. Everything must be available to enquiry, investigation, and questioning — and questioning cannot happen if you declare that you’ve already come to the Truth. Never believe that the journey has ended or that the ego itself is the Truth.

Is the Gita for Everyone?

Gita can be brought to anybody, and Arjunas are not always available. Sometimes, Duryodhanas have to be turned into Arjunas. It’s just that it’s relatively easier with an Arjuna. As long as somebody has even the faintest remnant of consciousness left, Gita can be brought to that person — but it will be tough. Nobody really deserves the Gita. You can only be grateful to the Gita if it comes to you.

Is The Gita About Sattvikata?

The Gita has nothing to do with sāttvikatā. Even sāttvikatā is to be rejected as destiny, while even rājasikatā is to be embraced if it serves as a means to freedom. Everything and anything is fine if it is usable in the context of liberation. Even sattva can become an object of consumption — don’t we see learned people whose knowledge becomes their identity? The Gita is about getting rid of all traps — be it sattva, rajas, tamas, or anything.

Is Grace Available to Everybody?

We say, “It was just sheer grace that the Buddha encountered sights of the old man, the sick man, the destitute, and was transformed.” But — was the Buddha the only one who encountered such sights? Grace is available to everybody; it was only the Buddha who decided that it’s time to take action. Grace is that which comes to you unconditionally, but people reject grace. Even grace respects your choice.

Is Man Really Superior to Animals?

If God stands for innocence, trust, surrender, then animals are closer to God. But man values himself by his ability to exploit. If you always feel hollow and hungry, then the entire universe is but a resource for you. One then wants to exploit the man, the woman, the child, the animals — everything. So, someone who does not want to look at the universe as a resource will not want to kill or consume anything in a violent way.

Never forget who you are — you are someone in prison. Talk of exits, and if doors do not exist, blast the damn walls. That's the reason why you need power. You should honestly and realistically seek freedom from your current bondages. Your responsibility is not to acquire something more. Your responsibility is to drop a lot of things. Drop what you know to be needless and harmful.

Is Religion Merely Superstition?

Religion concerns itself with ‘Ego and its liberation!’ That’s all. In the name of religion, if you are talking about planets and stars, about fruits and vegetables, wear this, don’t wear that, eat this, don’t eat that, the house should face this direction, and a thousand other things that you associate with it, then all that is some kind of tribal superstition. Religion has nothing to do with these things.

नया उन्हीं के पास आता है, जिनमें हिम्मत होती है — पुराना ख़त्म करने की। क्योंकि तुम्हें असल में कुछ नया नहीं चाहिए, तुम्हें तो सिर्फ़ पुराने से मुक्ति चाहिए। हम अपने आप से और पुराने से ऊब चुके हैं, और इसके ख़त्म होने की चाह रखते हैं। यदि वास्तव में नया चाहिए, तो पुराने को जाने दो और श्रद्धा रखो — नया अपने आप आ जाएगा। अन्यथा सिर्फ़ नए की आकांक्षा करोगे, तो वही आकांक्षा पुराने को बनाए रखेगी।

हिम्मत की राह चलने वालों को दीनता शोभा नहीं देती

अगर हम जानते हैं कि हम अब जिस जगह पर आ गए हैं, वो काम ऐसा है कि वो ज़ुनून मुझे सोने नहीं देता, और मैं अपने आप को उसमें पूरी तरह झोंक सकता हूँ — तो बस, यही प्रमाण है। जिस मुक़ाम को पीछे छोड़ आए हैं, उसकी अभी चर्चा हम क्यों करें? छोड़ा आए तो छोड़ आए। हम जहाँ पर हैं, वो हमारी जिज्ञासा की विषयवस्तु होनी चाहिए न। या फिर जिज्ञासा इस बारे में होनी चाहिए कि, जिस जगह को छोड़ आए हैं — उसको लेकर के भी अभी इतनी जिज्ञासा क्यों है?

सच्चाई के लिए जब प्रेम होता है, सफाई के लिए जब प्रेम होता है तो आदमी फिर गंदगी के तथ्य को नकारता नहीं है वो कहता है हम देख पा रहे हैं कि बहुत गंदगी है। साफ करेंगे। बच्चे हों या बड़े हों सबको समझाना पड़ेगा कि विविधता एक बात होती है विविधता को विषमता मत बनाओ। दो अलग हैं इसका मतलब ये नहीं है कि उनमें से एक श्रेष्ठ है, एक हीन है। और अगर कुछ श्रेष्ठ कुछ हीन तुम्हें लग भी रहा है तो पहले देखो कि क्यों लग रहा है? श्रेष्ठता और हीनता का आधार बता दो?

धर्म आपके शरीर की रक्षा थोड़ी करेगा। रक्षा शब्द की जब बात आती है तो ये समझना पड़ेगा कि आपको बड़ा ख़तरा क्या होता है। ख़तरे के संदर्भ में ही रक्षा शब्द का कुछ अर्थ है ना। ख़तरा हो तभी रक्षा की बात होती है। ख़तरा ही नहीं तो रक्षा शब्द अर्थहीन है। हाँ तो सबसे पहले तो ये जानना पड़ेगा कि हमें ख़तरा क्या है? एक मनुष्य को सबसे बड़ा ख़तरा क्या है? क्या मृत्यु? क्या किसी इंसान को सबसे बड़ा ख़तरा ये होता है कि उसका शरीर गिर जाएगा, मृत्यु हो जाएगी — ये होता है? किसी इंसान को सबसे बड़ा ख़तरा ये होता है कि मृत्यु आने से पहले वो मुक्त नहीं हो पाएगा। ये होता है ख़तरा।

हिंसा तो हिंसा है ना। आदमी हिंसक है, यहाँ एक तरीके से हिंसा करेगा, वहाँ दूसरे तरीके से हिंसा करेगा। घर में एक तरह से हिंसा करेगा, दफ़्तर में दूसरे तरीके से हिंसा करेगा। दफ़्तर में वो अपने चपरासी का शोषण करेगा, घर में आके बीवी-बच्चों का शोषण करेगा। जो धार्मिक है, वो धार्मिक तरीके से शोषण करेगा। जो अपने आप को नास्तिक बोलता है, वो दूसरे तरीके से शोषण करेगा। शोषण तो सभी करेंगे। जब तक भीतर ज्ञान नहीं है, तब तक व्यक्ति हिंसक तो रहेगा ही रहेगा। अहिंसा के रूप, रंग, तरीके अलग हो सकते हैं।
