Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the sense of 'I' or ego is not merely a linguistic problem but a fundamental issue of living. While terms like ego, illusion, or ignorance are used to describe the problem, the reality of suffering exists in life itself, not in the words used to define it. He emphasizes that one must remain constantly alert to observe the problem as it arises in the present moment, rather than relying on memory or labels. True understanding happens so instantly that there is no time to even name the experience as 'ego'. He further clarifies that the body and mind function according to their inherent nature and conditioning. Just as fire burns, the body will experience hunger or decay, and the mind will experience fear, doubt, or desire. The mistake lies in taking responsibility for these natural processes or identifying with them. Acharya Prashant asserts that the body, mind, and the world are essentially one material entity, while the true 'I' or the Self is distinct. Suffering arises when we try to bridge this natural separation by claiming ownership over the body's actions or the mind's fluctuations. Finally, he describes the state of pure consciousness as being free from the influence of external impacts. When one stops trying to control or fix the mind and body, they function harmoniously on their own. He suggests that spiritual seekers often ask 'big' questions about liberation or God because of deep internal unrest. In contrast, a truly healthy or realized person lives simply and naturally, without the need for grand spiritual concepts, as they are already established in their true nature.
