Description

Acharya Prashant discusses the concept of destiny, explaining that it represents what is inevitable, yet individuals often resist it by asserting their ego and personal will. He critiques the common desire to find a 'good' or 'true' guru based on personal criteria, arguing that a guru chosen by the ego can never lead a person beyond their own limitations. He suggests that such 'guru shopping' is a reflection of one's own sick state of mind and that a chosen guru will only be as limited as the seeker's own understanding. Instead, he posits that a true guru is one who chooses the disciple, often appearing unexpectedly and holding onto them even when they wander. He further explains that while a guru respects the seeker's freedom and allows the ego to roam until it is ready for discipline, the guru's role is to bring the seeker back to the right path when they are capable of receiving guidance. Addressing the necessity of a physical form, he points out that since human beings primarily perceive the world through forms and images—even when thinking of God—the guru must also appear in a physical form to be effective. Although the guru is essentially the formless Soul, the formless remains inaccessible to those who live only in the world of shapes and objects, making the physical presence of a guru essential for spiritual progress.
