Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the issue of who should decide what women wear, asserting that the individual must have the sole right to make such choices. He explains that while one may help awaken another's consciousness to see clearly, interfering in personal decisions like clothing or lifestyle is an infringement on freedom. Instead of imposing rules on modesty, society should provide women with both worldly and spiritual education, allowing them to determine their own path. He notes that the human mind naturally seeks total freedom and that historical compliance with social restrictions was a result of mental slavery rather than true civility. He argues that the obsession with women's clothing in male-dominated societies stems from deep-seated body-consciousness and lust. Men often view women merely as physical objects because they are disconnected from their own inner selves. Despite the biological similarities between men and women, a lust-centered gaze focuses only on sexual differences. This perspective leads to the internalization of the male gaze by women, who then begin to view themselves as objects of attraction. He warns that this leads to the weaponization of the female body, where physical appearance is used as a tool for manipulation, which is harmful to both sexes. He emphasizes that granting freedom without providing the necessary wisdom and self-knowledge is an act of injustice. He compares giving someone freedom without enlightenment to giving car keys to someone who does not know how to drive. The primary focus should be on enlightening the mind so that individuals can make informed decisions. For a conscious person, clothing and physical appearance are secondary concerns. The body is viewed as a temporary resource or tool for the consciousness to achieve the ultimate goal of liberation. In a truly awakened society, superficial matters like attire would become irrelevant as people focus on higher spiritual goals and the teachings of figures like Shri Krishna.
