Description

Acharya Prashant explains that remembering the 'True Name' or 'Satnam' refers to remembering that which is nameless. Saints emphasize name remembrance not as a specific word, but as a state of constant remembrance of the nameless. He describes this as a process where one is told to 'remember' without being given a specific object to hold onto, similar to a Zen koan. This practice begins with the mind and ends with the dissolution of the mind. While the individual starts the process as a doer, the culmination is not an act of the individual but the disappearance of the individual self, much like becoming so absorbed in a book that the reader ceases to exist as a separate entity. Acharya Prashant further discusses self-observation as a method, noting that while it is the most direct and simple path, it is also the most difficult because it requires absolute honesty. Since the observer and the observed are the same, there is a high risk of self-deception or bias. Therefore, the core of this practice is not just observation, but the integrity to see oneself without manipulation. He concludes by stating that right choices and true understanding happen silently and naturally, without the interference of the ego's conscious knowledge.
