Description

Acharya Prashant critiques the common misconception that physical cleanliness or ritualistic bathing leads to spiritual purity or mental refinement. He points out that if external hygiene were a prerequisite for spiritual growth, then beauty pageant contestants would be equivalent to saints like Mira Bai, and ritualistic priests would have attained liberation. He emphasizes that while physical hygiene has its own practical benefits, such as health and freshness, it has no direct correlation with the removal of deep-seated mental tendencies like ego, attachment, or delusion. He uses the analogy of a car to explain that cleaning the windshield (the body) is useless if the engine (the mind) is broken. He further explains that the body is merely a vehicle intended to reach a destination. Obsessing over its preservation and cleanliness is futile because, ultimately, both a clean and an unclean body turn into the same ash upon death. Acharya Prashant warns against the 'stinking life'—a life filled with ignorance and worldly attachments—stating that it is a far greater defect than a 'stinking body.' He urges individuals to prioritize the purification of their life and consciousness over superficial physical grooming, noting that many people waste their lives polishing the vehicle while never actually using it to reach the spiritual goal.
