Description

Acharya Prashant explains that human beings are unique among all creatures because they possess the freedom of choice. Unlike animals, which are strictly bound by their natural code or Prakriti, humans can choose their housing, travel, and even their diet. He emphasizes that because humans are fundamentally restless and prone to complaining, every choice they make should be directed toward achieving inner peace and rest. This fundamental requirement for peace must dictate one's dietary choices. He argues that a spiritual seeker cannot consume flesh because slaughtering another conscious being compounds one's own suffering and inner turbulence. While some argue that eating plants also involves violence, Acharya Prashant clarifies that consuming fruits and leaves is the minimum violence required for physical survival. He points out that even agriculture involves violence through the clearing of forests and destruction of species, but meat consumption is far more violent. He suggests that as humanity evolves spiritually, the goal should be to move toward living through orchards rather than farms to minimize the destruction of life.
