Description

Acharya Prashant explains that human poverty is not due to a lack of the Divine, but a failure to recognize and value it. He uses the analogy of a diamond in one's pocket being mistaken for a pebble; as long as its true value is not realized, the person remains poor. Conversely, mistaking a pebble for a diamond does not make one rich. He emphasizes that spirituality is about giving the highest value to the Divine and stripping false value from worldly 'trash'. He notes that while the Divine is always present, it often remains hidden under the 'garbage' of worldly attachments and trivialities, much like a gold needle lost in a mountain of hay. To find the 'diamond', one must prioritize it and clear away the clutter of mundane distractions. He further discusses how people become trapped by their habits and past investments, whether emotional or material. Using the example of a monk who saves a kitten and ends up burdened by a household, he warns against the 'compounding of mistakes' where one continues to invest in a wrong direction simply because they have already spent time or effort there. He clarifies that true compassion is saving a life and then letting go, whereas attachment is refusing to release what has been saved. He also critiques the common tendency to mislabel fleeting emotional responses or social interactions as 'love' due to societal pressure and media influence. He advises that one should not be in a hurry to label every 'something' as love, as misidentifying these feelings leads to unnecessary suffering and false expectations.
