Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the concept of nationalism, cautioning that it can become a divisive and violent ideology if founded on differences like race, religion, or language. He references Rabindranath Tagore's opposition to blind nationalism and explains that most forms of nationalism arise from the ego, which thrives on boundaries and separation. He argues that a nation founded on the 'othering' of people, such as the two-nation theory, leads to toxic consequences and perpetual conflict. Instead, he proposes a nationalism based on the unifying principles of Vedanta, specifically the borderless self or 'Atma'. This enlightened nationalism aims to dissolve the ego and liberate the individual internally, rather than focusing on external resistance or geographical frontiers. He further explains that the true identity of 'Bharat' is transcendental and rooted in the urge to understand life and achieve liberation from suffering. He emphasizes that an Indian is one who is conscious and courageous enough to investigate the nature of the self and life. Regarding the education of the younger generation, he suggests that they will be naturally inclined toward these noble goals if they are shown a path out of their internal suffering and anxiety. He asserts that human welfare is not a zero-sum game and that exploiting others ultimately harms the exploiter. Finally, he addresses concerns about Artificial Intelligence, stating that it is a tool that cannot replace human consciousness or creativity. He clarifies that if a machine can replace one's thinking, it implies that the thinking was already mechanical, as originality remains an exclusive virtue of consciousness.
