Description

Acharya Prashant explains the relationship between knowledge (Gyan) and devotion (Bhakti), stating they are not two separate things but are fundamentally one. He clarifies that while gaining knowledge can lead to an expression of devotion, the reverse is also true. One cannot embark on the path of knowledge without an inherent love for Truth, which is the essence of devotion. Thus, in a seed form, devotion initiates the pursuit of knowledge. As knowledge blooms, it results in an open and clear expression of devotion. The deeper one moves into knowledge, the more purity the expression of devotion acquires. This creates a cycle where, in one sense, devotion comes after knowledge, and in another, devotion precedes knowledge. The complete picture, however, is that they are inseparable and move together. For instance, when one sings devotional songs (bhajans) with this understanding, it is not merely being carried away by music but becomes a pure and conscious involvement. Acharya Prashant cautions that any form of devotion without understanding is just self-deception or entertainment. Conversely, knowledge that is dry and loveless is incomplete and futile. A true person of knowledge will inevitably have love, and a person with genuine love for Truth will be compelled toward knowledge. Therefore, an honest inquiry into Truth is itself an act of pure love.
