Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the common human tendency to seek validation and love from others to protect one's self-image. He explains that what most people call 'love' is actually a mental projection based on a pre-defined list of behaviors. We often manipulate situations or others to act according to our definitions of love so we can feel good about ourselves. He suggests that if love is merely a product of imagination, one could just as easily imagine being loved by the whole world without involving or burdening another person. True love, he argues, is not about the exchange of happiness or pleasure, which he describes as the most dangerous definition of love. Happiness is often found in bondages, and if love is based on happiness, it becomes just another chain that leads to future suffering. He clarifies that real love is synonymous with liberation and truth, not the mutual gratification of desires. To love someone truly is to be concerned with their highest well-being, which means helping them toward freedom and truth rather than just providing comfort. This form of love requires immense patience and the strength to endure the other person's resistance or even their hatred, as people often cling to their bondages and resent those who try to free them. Acharya Prashant points out that the greatest lovers of humanity are often those we have never met—sages and figures from different centuries who worked for human liberation without expecting anything in return. He concludes that true love is the attraction toward peace, truth, and liberation, rather than the pursuit of physical, emotional, or financial pleasure.
