Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the question of finding the right work and a goal in life. He explains that there are two worlds: the one outside the skin and the one inside the skin. Although they are one, our outward-looking eyes perceive them as separate. Any work one does must be in one of these two realms. The first path is to look at the external world and ask what it needs at this moment. If you have the practical ability to provide what the world is asking for, you should make that your goal. This is described as the path of helping others, the path of compassion and love. It means choosing work out of love, because it needs to be done for the world's sake. The second path involves looking into the inner world, the world of the mind, and identifying what is wrong or needs correction. Then, one should choose work that challenges these internal flaws. This is contrary to the common advice of choosing work based on one's strengths, which the speaker calls a language of greed and a profit-based calculation. A person seeking meaningful work chooses a task that addresses their weaknesses, thereby inviting challenges for self-improvement. Acharya Prashant suggests that if one is relatively untroubled internally, they should choose work that the world needs. Once the right work is identified, one can find a way to enter that field. He uses the analogy of an ambulance or a fire engine, which goes wherever it is needed. Similarly, one should see where the 'fire' is in the world and go there. He assures that if you choose the right work, you will never complain about life, emptiness, or loneliness. The right work is so vast and infinite that it never ends, keeping you occupied 24/7. Such work, he clarifies, is not found on job portals but must be sought with the heart, like a seeker or a lover.
