Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the root cause of climate change is the fundamental constitution of man, characterized by a deep inner unrest and a constant drive to consume. This man emerges from a mode of thinking that avoids self-understanding and instead focuses exclusively on the outer world. Looking at the self is avoided because it is perceived as tedious or humiliating, especially for those who prefer to philosophize about external matters like money, nations, and production. Consequently, man proceeds outwardly to find happiness, encountering three categories: other human beings, man-made objects, and the natural world. Driven by a sense of hunger and dissatisfaction, man attempts to consume everything in these domains to find redemption. Acharya Prashant details how this consumption manifests in three destructive ways. First, when mankind consumes mankind, it leads to unsustainable population growth. Second, the consumption of man-made objects results in massive energy demands and a heavy carbon footprint, as everything manufactured requires energy. Third, the consumption of the natural world leads to the loss of biodiversity and the extinction of species. He argues that climate change is not just a result of specific activities but is man's compulsion. Man is climate change itself, using the entire universe to try and fill an internal void. If the Earth is insufficient to satisfy this hunger, man will use his intellect to colonize and consume other planets.
