Description

Acharya Prashant highlights the defining characteristics of Shri Buddha, beginning with his profound compassion which he placed above the laws of any land. Using the story of a wounded pigeon, he explains that for Shri Buddha, the life of an innocent being and compassion are higher than justice or legal entitlements. Shri Buddha was well-read, attentive, and possessed a deep curiosity. Despite being a crown prince with access to power, wealth, and familial attachments, he renounced everything. He prioritized knowledge and realization over mortal beauty, pleasure, and tradition, demonstrating that he could not be bought by money or charm. This detachment allowed him to leave his palace in pursuit of the real meaning of existence. During his decade-long journey in the jungle, Shri Buddha moved from teacher to teacher, never settling for lazy conclusions or mere beliefs. His complete inner honesty drove him to continue his journey until he reached ultimate knowledge. Once enlightened, he did not keep the realization to himself, as he considered personal realization without sharing to be a selfish act. Driven by compassion, he traveled extensively to preach his Dhamma to all people, from commoners to kings. He recognized that the Vedic religion of his time had become distorted with misinterpretations, causing endless suffering. To provide the necessary antidote to this suffering, he established the Buddha Sangha, an organization raised not out of personal ambition, but as a historical imperative to save the people.
