Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the question of why there is so much violence and misery in the world by shifting the focus from global systems to the individual. He asserts that the world's suffering is merely a collective reflection of individual suffering. If an individual is violent or miserable, that state inevitably manifests in the world. He identifies two root causes for this condition: ignorance and a lack of faith. Ignorance is the failure to understand the true nature of one's life, while a lack of faith is the refusal to surrender or change even when one recognizes their miserable state. He emphasizes that the pain of a child, an elderly person, or even a neighboring nation is fundamentally the same, rooted in these two causes. Acharya Prashant explains that self-knowledge is not an isolated pursuit but must be understood in the context of the world. Just as one cannot understand a leaking car engine without knowing about oil, one cannot know oneself without observing their interactions with the world. He uses the metaphor of a broken, smoke-emitting car to describe human life; people continue to drive this 'broken car' because they are afraid that letting go of their current misery might lead to something even worse. This fear stems from a lack of faith in the possibility of a deeper peace. He concludes that suffering is actually a helpful signal or a 'well-wisher' urging an individual to improve and look within. True liberation, or 'crossing over,' is the ultimate goal behind all human desires, whether it be seeking wealth, love, or knowledge.
