Description

A questioner categorizes the world's problems into two types: those directly related to religion, like superstitions, and those that seem secular, like poverty, illiteracy, and infrastructure issues. He asks how spirituality can help solve these seemingly neutral, secular problems. Acharya Prashant responds by stating that there is no problem in the world whose solution is not spirituality. He asserts that every problem, regardless of its category, arises from the decline of spirituality and the absence of true religion (Dharma). All problems are created by humans, and humans create problems only when they are unconscious. Spirituality is the science of moving from unconsciousness to consciousness. For instance, a conscious person drives differently than an unconscious one, affecting traffic. An official making decisions about road construction will make one kind of decision when unconscious and another when conscious. All problems are created by humans because they are irreligious and their consciousness is asleep. Spirituality is not a separate field but the foundation of all fields. To be a good footballer, scientist, or cricketer, one must be spiritual. He gives the example of a scientist who is jealous of a colleague; this jealousy is a spiritual issue, not a scientific one. Similarly, an opening batsman needs patience, which is a spiritual quality. The speaker explains that science or the constitution cannot teach about the inner world, which is the domain of spirituality. All our problems are our own creations, and we create them because we are irreligious and our consciousness is asleep. Therefore, spirituality is the basis of everything. The speaker further argues that the concept of development is flawed. The most developed country in the world also has the largest nuclear stockpile. This is the concept of development. The so-called development is what is most responsible for climate change. All climate change talks fail because the leaders who gather have a tacit agreement to do nothing, as they must do what their populace wants, and the populace, lacking spirituality, only wants indulgence. Spirituality is the only thing that can teach that one cannot find joy and liberation through indulgence. Without spirituality, one cannot solve climate change. Thus, pure, true religiosity is the only solution to any problem.
