Description

Acharya Prashant responds to a question about why his courses are not made free if he truly wants to help the world. He begins by stating that courses on the Upanishads, the Gita, life issues, and the words of saints are indeed available, but he questions who will actually study them. He asserts that the issue is not as simple as it seems because the questioner does not understand life or the human mind. If he did, he would understand the foundation's policy and would not have asked the question. Acharya Prashant challenges the notion that people are eager to learn about scriptures like the Ishavasya Upanishad, explaining that people have to be made to learn; one has to reach out to them and, in a way, mentally twist their arm. He elaborates that without the resources to reach people and repeatedly appear on their screens, no one would study. This is not a hypothetical claim but is based on over fifteen years of experience. For the first twelve years, his videos on YouTube had very few views, sometimes only 30-40, because no money was spent on promoting them, as no money was being taken. Even today, older videos have very few views, which some people find shameful, but the reason is the lack of promotional spending. The videos that now get millions of views do so not because people are eager to understand Advaita or Vedanta, but because the donations received are used to promote them and ensure they reach a wider audience. The very video the questioner watched reached him through someone else's donation. Acharya Prashant points out that what goes viral on its own is not truth, peace, liberation, or the Upanishads. He asks the questioner when he last searched for terms like 'liberation', 'truth', 'salvation', 'nirvana', 'Vedanta', or 'philosophy' on YouTube or Google. Since people do not search for such topics, these videos do not appear in their recommendations. Therefore, the only way to bring this content to them is through promotion, which is necessary because society is degraded. He describes the world as a 'hell' where it is easy to lead someone astray, but difficult to guide them towards the right path, stating that the knowledge of the Upanishads and Vedanta has to be 'stuffed down their throats'. Regarding the cost, he clarifies that there is no 'fee' for the courses. A voluntary donation is suggested, but if someone is unable to pay, they can simply write an email, and the course will be made available to them for free, a provision that thousands have utilized. The donations received are used for the promotion of truth. This expenditure on promotion will continue to be necessary until a love for truth is awakened in people. Once that happens, there will be no need for promotion, and consequently, no need for donations.
